Pico-Laser Tattoo Removal Aftercare Advice

A cold compress should be applied to the lasered area for 5 minutes immediately following treatment to remove any latent heat and to reduce any swelling. Please do not apply ice direct to the treated area.

It is recommended that pure Aloe Vera is applied to reduce any erythema (redness) or general discomfort, erythema may last for several hours. The use of any oil/paraffin based topical skin care products such as Bepanthen is to be avoided.

A sterile non-stick dressing such as Boots Melolin is recommended to prevent clothing rubbing the area. Whilst indoors it is advisable to remove the dressing as soon as practical to allow the lasered area to dry and to start the healing process.

Avoid soaking the area for 24 to 48 hours after treatment, do not use hot tubs, whirlpools or go bathing. Showers are permitted if tepid water is used.

The skin will be fragile for 2 to 3 days after treatment so gentle cleaning is recommended, do not rub the treatment area. Gently moisten and pat dry. After cleaning the skin another application of Aloe Vera can help to aid recovery.

Try to avoid excessive sweating for 24 to 48 hours after treatment, do not use sauna’s or vigorous working out.

Do not scrub the area or use any products on the treated area without first consulting your Laser Technician.

Do not expose the treated area to sunlight and avoid the use of tanning creams during the entire course of treatments. Once the treated skin has healed sufficiently the use of SPF 50 sunscreen can then be used if out in the sun.

Keep the area well moisturised and allow the blisters to flake off on their own, DO NOT PICK AT THE BLISTERS! This is the most common cause of infections and subsequent scarring.

During the course of laser treatments avoid irritants such as Retin-A, Retinol, Renova, Glycolics, bleaching creams and exfoliants.

Try to avoid alcohol for 3 to 7 days – alcohol may dilate blood vessels in the treatment area.

Keep well hydrated.

Avoid photo-sensitivity inducing herbs such as St John’s Wort and Fever Few, some foods have also been reported as causing skin photo-sensitivity ie celery and leek.

Important

In the rare occurrence of clients experiencing honey coloured pus oozing from the blistered skin which could possibly indicate an infection, the client should seek medical attention from their GP who will probably prescribe antibiotic cream. The sooner the infection is treated the better so as to reduce the risk of scarring.
